Yufuin is a special hot spring resort in Japan.

The traditional Satoyama culture remains intact, and contemporary art is layered on top of it. COMICO ART HOUSE YUFUIN is a combination of the simplicity of village architecture and the cutting-edge space we are pursuing.

The black charred cedar exterior brings out the lush greenery of the trees and mountains, and upon closer inspection, the scaly pattern and warmth of the wood, unique to charred cedar, are apparent. This texture was achieved by adding a special treatment to the traditional technique of charring cedar.

The buildings were given themes of wood, earth and bamboo, respectively. The minimalist space resonated with the contemporary art exhibited at COMICO ART MUSEUM YUFUIN, and was designed to naturally draw the visitor's attention to the essence of the materials.

We encourage you to take a dip in the open-air bath, designed to frame Mount Yufu, and experience the encounter between Yufuin village culture and modern times.

The black charred cedar on the exterior walls brings out the deep green of Yufuin, which is surrounded by mountains, and conveys different patterns, textures, and the warmth of the wood depending on where you look at it. Another highlight is how the charred cedar, which is plastered with Yamato-style plastering and has different projections, changes the shadows on the building as time passes.

The thin steel roofs, which stand in a staggered pattern against the mountain backdrop, have deep eaves that make the building appear lower, while also adding a modern touch to the sukiya-style atmosphere. This technique allows the building to blend in naturally with the small houses clustered together in the Satoyama landscape.

The Naguri finish using chona wood has been used since ancient times in sukiya-style architecture. It is a traditional Japanese technique that creates a natural texture. You can feel the texture of the craftsman's handiwork as soon as you step inside the room.

The underfloor heating system, which utilizes the heat from the hot springs that gush out from the source on the premises, is unique to Yufuin, one of Japan's leading hot spring resorts.
You will be enveloped in a soft warmth that is different from the heat from an electric heater.
